Thailand

Well while most of my friends and family went out of Colombo to Hikka and Kandy for the long weekend, I FINALLY got to go on my birthday trip to Bangkok with my mum bro and aunt. we were supposed to go for my birthday in April but hey better late than never right ;-)

I’m not going to be writing up a word for word description of what we did there but here are some of the things that really stood out about the place to me.

1) It’s not a giant brothel. just thought I’d get that one out of the way first. ;-)

2) The shopping is amazing and you can find almost anything your looking for there but to really experience the place and get all those stories you would like to tell your friends is usually just get into some shorts and a t-shirt and troll the street markets.

it is somewhat like going for a day trip to petta if you need a rough idea of what it’s like on the streets all along the city. the markets stretch for as far as the eye can see and are always buzzing (despite the news telling us it’s like a warzone)

3) The best food is always found on the streets not in a hotel. While we were there we went to all the street food shops we could find and ate everything from squid to some kind of noodle kottu wrapped inside a thin egg omelet. while some of the places were not the cleanest the food was by far the best.

4) After a long day of roaming the streets and shopping the best thing you can do in the night before going out again is getting a Thai Foot Massage ;-)

5) Using public transport in the city like it’s sky train and the river boat service are an awesome way to see all the different parts of the city fast and decide which you want to see close up.

and yeah that’s just some of my thoughts on the place, now I’m going to go back to unpacking the 6 bags of stuff we brought back from the place =P

until next time

laters…
